A co-production from Iran, Afghanistan, the Netherlands, and Australia, the drama tells the story of a little boy named Hewad, who lives on the streets of Kabul following the loss of his father and brother.
The 9-year-old boy starts working as a cart pusher to support his family. He enjoys doing his job, traveling through the capital city of Afghanistan.
He actually has a dream to become a star of cinema. His dream revives as he meets an Australian photographer.
Arafat Faiz, Elham Ayazi, Saeedeh Sadat, Fereshteh Alami, Madineh Niaz and Andrew Quilty are some of the cast members of the flick.
Iranian maestro, Hossein Alizadeh, has composed the music score for the movie.
‘When Pomegranates Howl’ went on screen at some global events, including the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia, the Sofia Middle East and North Africa Region Film Festival in Bulgaria, the Leeds Film in the UK, the Bengaluru International Film Festival in India, and the Fribourg International Film Festival in Switzerland.
According to the official website of the Zlin Film Festival, “it is the oldest and largest film festival of its kind in the world. Each year the festival presents around 300 films from more than 50 countries around the world.”
The 62nd edition of the event was held on May 26-June 1, 2022.
The previous edition of the Czech event presented its Golden Slipper for best feature film at the junior category to Iran’s ‘Sun Children’ by Majid Majidi.
