‘Holy Spider’ creates public outrage

New film ‘Holy Spider’ has stirred up controversy and sparked public outrage in Iran.

‘Holy Spider’ was among the films lately screened at the 2022 Cannes Festival, promoting anti-religious sentiments and Islamophobia.

While the flick was awarded at this year’s edition of Cannes fest, the controversial storyline of the film sparked public outrage in Iran and provoked an uproar among social media users.

Many Iranians took to social media to show their outrage over the content of the film and highlight their love for Islam and the eighth Shia Imam, Imam Reza, buried in the holy city of Mashhad.

Here are some of these reactions on social media:
“The project of Islamophobia and denigration has been on the agenda of the enemy for many years."
"It does not start or end with#Holy_Spider.”

“The film #Holy_Spider is, unfortunately, a completely anti-Iranian and anti-Islamic film and an emotional justification for more #Iran sanctions.”

On the same note, Islamic Culture and Communication Organization in Iran slammed the false content of the flick, releasing a statement on the film that partly read, “The anti-religious and insulting film ‘Holy Spider’ has sparked anger among lovers of the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) Household in different parts of the world.”

It adds, “With deliberate denigration … of our beloved country [Iran], this insulting film is in contradiction with the realities embedded in the fabric of Iranian society and the rich and its dynamic Islamic and Iranian culture.”

The flick’s language is Persian and was shot in Jordan.
