Iran horror film to vie in S. Korea

Iranian movie ‘Zalava’ is scheduled to vie at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BiFan) in South Korea.

Arsalan Amiri’s directorial experience will be Iran’s representative at this year’s edition of the horror movies’ event.

The movie narrates an imaginary story in an imaginary land with imaginary people in the 70s.

The inter-genre film narrates the tale of people’s fear of an unknown phenomenon and their efforts to bring back security to the region.

A synopsis for ‘Zalava’ reads, “When a village claims to be cursed by a demon, a gendarmerie sergeant attempts to denounce the exorcist in charge, whom he believes is nothing but a fraud.

The Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival or BiFan is an international film festival held annually in July in Bucheon, South Korea. Prior to 2015, it was known as the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival or PiFan.

Inaugurated in 1997, the festival focuses on South Korean and international horror, thriller, mystery and fantasy films, with particular attention to Asian cinema from East Asia and Southeast Asia.

The 26th edition of the event is scheduled for July 9-12, 2022.
