Mount Damavand is an extinct volcanic peak of the Alborz Mountains in northern Iran, about 42 miles (68 km) northeast of Tehran.
In Persian literature and mythology, the high peak appears frequently.
There are also several legends about this mountain, one of which describes it as the final resting place of Noah's Ark.
