“Dawata Kurmanji” in photos

Wedding ceremonies across the world vary between countries, cultures, religions, ethnic groups and even social classes.

In the culture of Khorasani Kurds, who live in Iran’s northeastern provinces of North and Razavi Khorasan, the wedding ceremony is the most important celebration in a person’s lifetime, and is celebrated with great joy.

“Dawata Kurmanji” means wedding ceremony in Kurmanji, the northern dialect of the Kurdish languages.

The wedding party is a manifestation of social cohesion and solidarity where people cooperate with each other to hold it.

“Dawata Kurmanji”, which is of a special importance for Khorasani Kurds and is known for its unique traditions, is registered on Iran’s national heritage list.
