Portugal’s MDOC to screen ‘The Doll’

Iranian short flick ‘The Doll’ has been set to hit the screen at the MDOC - Melgaço International Documentary Film Festival in Portugal.

Directed by Elaheh Esmaeeli, the 33-minute doc shows how the whole family members of a young girl can have parts in her future and fate. She is only 14 when the family is making a decision about marrying her off.

‘The Doll’ won the best short film award at the Iranian Film Festival of Zurich in Switzerland, the Gold Remi award at the WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival in the US, the award for best international short doc at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, and some other awards and nominations at several other worldwide events.

The short doc has also toured various global galas, including the Atlanta Film Festival in the US, the International Film Festival of Huesca in Spain, the kortfilmfestivalen in Norway, the Female Eye Film Festival in Canada, the Tirana International Film Festival in Albania, the Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival in China, and the Athens International Film + Video Festival in the US.

The 2022 edition of the MDOC - Melgaço International Documentary Film Festival will take place on August 1-7, screening dozens of movies from across the world.

The festival aims to promote and disseminate ethnographic and social cinema, looking for films that demonstrate the author’s point of view on social, individual and cultural issues related to identity, memory and borders.
