Iran Lut desert hits 163.4 °F

First ground-based meteorological observations reveal that Iran’s Lut desert hits 73 degrees Celsius in a large number of target points.

A local official said to the media that a team of experts was in charge of recording their ground-based observations.

The Lut Desert is one of the hottest spots on Earth and encompasses areas in three Iranian provinces of Kerman, Sistan and Baluchestan, and South Khorasan.

Seven years of satellite temperature data analyzed by NASA showed in 2005 that the Lut Desert was the hottest place on Earth recording the highest overall temperature at 70.7°C.

In 2016, the desert was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
