Jameh Mosque of Fahraj: 'Oldest' in Iran’s Yazd

The central Iranian province of Yazd is home to several old and historical mosques, including the Jameh Mosque of Fahraj.

Some archeologists believe that the Jameh Mosque of Fahraj is the oldest surviving Islamic structure in the country dating to over 1400 years.

Mosques in Yazd, including some that used to be ancient fire temples, exemplify a culture of peaceful life.

Jameh Mosque of Fahraj still stands tall in a county of the same name in Yazd Province.

The mosque primarily consists of an internal courtyard, sanctuary and arcades, and a clay minaret.

Iran is home to numerous mosques and holy shrines in the country, representing a combination of symmetry, geometric designs, and vibrant colors.

The architecture of the mosques in the country varies from one region to another. However, they frequently have extremely complex structures that make use of color changes, tiles, and symbolic motifs.
