Iran painting adorns Imam Ali (AS) shrine

Iranian artist’s painting themed on Ashura has been installed in courtyard of Imam Ali’s (AS) holy shrine.

The painting named “Ashura’s Christ” was created by Iranian artist Mahmoud-Ali Naderi.

The impressive work reimagines a scene from the Battle of Ashura in which a vicious foe of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (AS) fatally shot his six-month-old baby in the throat with an arrow.

In conjunction with the mourning ceremonies for Imam Hussein’s (AS) martyrdom, the installation was recently placed at the Bab al-Qibla entrance of the first Shia Imam’s holy shrine in Iraq.

In a number of literary works, Imam Hussein's (AS) agony during the Battle of Karbala is likened to that of Jesus Christ.
