Fuman: A town with colorful statues

The northern Iranian town of Fuman in Gilan Province has a lot to offer to sightseers and vacationers.

With a history that dates back to 2,500-3,000 years, Fuman mesmerizes the visitors with the glamour and charm of its verdant forests and gardens and abundant waterfalls.

The ancient history is reflected upon the buildings and towers that exist in the town.

The streets of the town are decorated with beautiful statues, which present historic and cultural landmarks, including the statue of Anahita and the statue of the Four Girls.

Fuman, literally, means the scholars’ sanctuary; and is indeed the hometown of many scholars and poets.

Fuman produces a popular cookie known as Fuman’s Kolucheh with a filling of dates and walnuts. These cookies will melt in your mouth and will give your taste buds a different experience.

One of the most famous places to visit in Fuman is Rudkhan Castle. It is an old castle on top of a high hill that takes a two-hour climb to reach the top to see the extraordinary fortress and the amazing view.

As for souvenir, travelers can purchase wicker baskets and mats, hand-woven shawls and woolen clothes.

On its bustling open markets you will see fresh cookies, tea, rice, pickled garlic, fresh vegetables, freshly caught fish and much more.
