Directed by Faezeh Azizkhani, the 79-minute movie will be screened at the 41st edition of the Canadian event.
Produced by Manijeh Hekmat and Mahshid Ahangarani-Farahani, the feature film narrates the story of a writer named Hanieh who loves cinema but is not successful in her career.
She writes a screenplay based on her own life and sells it to her close friend, Pegah, after abandoning the hope of directing her semi-autobiographical screenplay.
Pegah keeps Hanieh around to advise in script meetings and cast rehearsals.
When the screenplay is ready to be read and practiced, the new director and the crew start to criticize and judge the main character of the screenplay but Hanieh can’t take it.
The cast list includes Hanieh Tavassoli, Pegah Ahangarani Farahani, Ali Mosaffa, Pedram Sharifi, Ramin Sediqi, Amaneh Aqarezakashi, Ahmad Azizkhani, Majid Azizkhani, and Dorna Madani.
‘The Locust’ went on screen at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in Scotland and the Split Film Festival in Croatia.
The annual VIFF includes “some of the best cinema from around the globe, talks, conferences, live performances and other unique events that celebrate film and film culture,” an online submission platform reads.
This year’s edition of the fest is slated for September 29-October 7.
