Iran, Syria to broaden cultural coop

Iran and Syria have signed an agreement on the expansion of cultural cooperation between the two countries.

The Memorandum of Understanding was inked by the head of Iran’s Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) Mohammad-Mehdi Imanipour and Syrian Culture Minister Lubana Mushawah in Damascus on Wednesday.

Under the accord, the two sides would cooperate in several fields, including cinema, theater, and music.

This agreement would be “a road map” to strengthen cultural cooperation between the two countries, Imanipour said.

For her part, the Syrian minister noted that the pact would help the two nations learn more about the traditions and culture of each other.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the Iranian Cultural Week in Syria, which opened on Wednesday.

A number of Iranian artists are taking part in the Iranian Film Week that puts on display Iranian handicrafts, artworks and carpets, as well.

The event will also see a workshop on filmmaking.
