Haj Sayyah is considered the first Iranian globetrotter, having traveled to different parts of the world for 18 years.
He began his travels at 18 and was the first Iranian to travel to the Americas.
Sayyah, one of the intellectuals of the Qajar era and a close friend of political activist Seyyed Jamal al -Din Asad Abadi, returned to Tehran after 18 years. He was imprisoned during the Constitutional Revolution for writing a critical letter to the authorities.
He passed away in 1925 at the age of 89. Haj Sayyah’s travels made him a very well-rounded person.
After his passing, his sons published two books based on travel journals the first Iranian globetrotter kept while visiting Asia, Europe and the US.
