Iran’s ‘Scent of Wind’ wins at French festival

The 2022 Festival des 3 Continents (Three Continents Festival) in France has bestowed an award upon Iranian film ‘Scent of Wind’.

Directed by Hadi Mohaqqeq, the movie participated in the International Competition section of the 44th edition of the festival where it received the Montgolfière d’argent award.

Mohaqqeq also stars in the film as a handicapped man who has to go from town to town to replace a broken electrical part.

“The greatness and tenderness of this philosophical fable that succeeds in embodying, with total freedom, the main character’s perseverance in the sumptuous yet perilous Iranian mountains,” the jury of the event describes the movie.

The jury was composed of Stéphane Batut, French director and casting director; Moustapha Mbengue, Italian-Senegalese musician and actor; Estelle Robin, film producer from Nantes and Axelle Ropert, French director.

‘Scent of Wind’ was previously awarded at the 27th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in South Korea.

Mohaqqeq is also the winner of the New Currents Award and Fipresci Prize at the BIFF in 2015 for his film ‘Immortal’.

The annual festival is devoted to the cinemas of Asia, Africa and Latin America.

The 2022 edition of the festival took place in Nantes, France, on November 18- 27.
