Citrus picking in northern Iran: Photos

On the eve of the ancient Persian festival of Yalda Night, the harvest of orange and tangerine in Iran’s northern province of Golestan is accelerated.

Ahead of Yalda Night that observes the longest night of the year, the demand for fruits such as orange and tangerine, which are served on that night, rises.

There are 750 hectares of tangerine orchards and 5,500 hectares of orange orchards in Golestan, most of them in the counties of Gorgan and Kordkuy.

So far, 50,000 tons of citrus fruits have been picked in the province.

It is estimated that 10,000 tons of tangerine and 100,000 tons of oranges will be picked in the province.
