‘Amal’ succeeded to take home three awards in three categories, including best director and best play, at the Iranian prestigious screening event.
The play also brought Haider Juma the award for best actor, while set designer Ali al-Sudani and actress Rizab Ahmad Hassan al-Karkhi won honorable mentions for their collaboration in this production.
Written and directed by Jawad al-Assadi, the play focuses on the hardship of wartime and the question arises as to whether it is right to invite someone else into this world under these conditions.
Assadi is a 76-year-old veteran stage director in the Arab world. He offers an innovative vision of theater, devotes energy to training young actors, and employs a unique style in directing plays.
The 41st edition of the Fajr International Theater Festival was directed by Kourosh Zarei. The major theater event was held in Iranian capital city of Tehran from January 15 to 31.
The event hosted 40 plays in the national competition, and 23 troupes gave performances in the international competition.
Foreign troupes from Brazil, Russia, Oman, Spain, Iraq, Armenia, Tunisia, and Jordan participated in the artistic event. Several theater experts from Ireland, Serbia, Algeria and Russia also held workshops during the festival.
The event featured a scientific section during which twenty papers from ten Muslim countries were presented on January 27 and 28.
