Owj to produce film on Iran’s major general

Martyred Mahdi Zeinoddin, young Iranian major general in the IRGC during the Iraq's imposed war, is to be the subject of a new film by Owj Arts and Media Organization.

The film entitled ‘Majnun’ will be directed by Mehdi Shahmohammadi and produced by Abbas Naderan.

The cast and crew will travel to the southwestern Iranian city of Abadan to join Shahmohammadi in his debut feature film.

The project was announced on the anniversary of Operation Kheibar, which was carried out by the 17th Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) Division under Zeinoddin.

Zeinoddin was martyred on November 18, 1984 at the age of 25, in a battle with a company of Kurdish separatists in the Sardasht region.

‘Majnun’ is part of a large project Owj launched in 2016 with ‘Standing in the Dust’ by Mohammad-Hossein Mahdavian to film episodes of the lives of IRGC commanders and top figures.

‘Standing in the Dust’ is a multiple award-winning biography/drama about Ahmad Motevaselian, one of Iran’s most legendary IRGC commanders who was kidnapped by the Zionist regime in 1982 in Lebanon.

The movie depicts the real-life events of this great commander who is regarded as one of Iran’s most well-respected contemporary national heroes. But what’s most intriguing about Ahmad Motevaselian isn’t just his bravery and love of the motherland, but his fate.

Owj also made ‘Mansur’, a biopic about the late commander-in-chief of the Iran Air Force, Mansur Sattari, with director Siavash Sarmadi in 2021.

‘The Stranger’ is the latest production by Owj, which was premiered at the 41st Fajr International Film Festival last week.

Mohammad-Hossein Latifi’s film portrays IRGC commander Mohammad Boroujerdi’s struggles against separatists in western Iran to maintain territorial integrity in the region in the early 1980s.
