Iranian Arabs mark Gargee'an tradition

Each year, Iranian Arabs in the southwestern province of Khuzestan observe the Gargee'an tradition in the mid of holy month of Ramadan.

Gargee'an coincides with the birth anniversary of Imam Hassan (AS), the second Shia Imam and the grandson of Prophet Muhammad [PBUH].

On that day, children wear new local clothes knock on the doors of their neighbors to receive sweets and money called 'Eidi’, which is given usually to children by elders as part of a celebration of the holiday.

Iran is home to different ethnic groups such as Persians, Kurds, Lurs, Arabs, Baluchs, Turkmen, and Azeris.
