Muslims break fast in Tehran's streets

Islam's holy month of Ramadan is popularly known as the "Month of Blessings," a time when acts of charity and generosity are encouraged to blossom.

On Thursday, a long iftar spread was set on Qasr-e Dasht Street in the Iranian capital of Tehran to mark the birth anniversary of Imam Hassan (AS), the second Shia Imam and the grandson of Prophet Muhammad [PBUH].

The commemoration of the birth anniversary is observed in the mid of the holy month of Ramadan.

During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from sunrise to sunset.

The worshippers break their fast with the evening meal called “iftar”.

The act of fasting in the holy month of Ramadan is aimed at reminding people of the impoverished people and their suffering.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the lunar calendar, is the month when the first verses of the Holy Quran were revealed to Islam’s Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Ramadan sees charitable people distributing free food among others, especially the needy.

Worshippers also go to mosques and holy sites to recite the Holy Quran and make supplications to Allah during the holy month.
