Famed vocalist: I stand with Iran

Acclaimed Iranian vocalist Homayoun Shajarian says if any war ever breaks out in Iran, he will stand shoulder‑to‑shoulder with his people in the country.

Speaking at a press conference in Tehran, he said, "If difficult days come, I will stay here [in Tehran]."

Shajarian revealed that after years of effort, he has finally secured permission to perform an open‑air concert in the very heart of the capital.

The landmark event will take place at Azadi Square on Friday, September 5 and it will be entirely free for the public.

The concert, he hinted, could become the first in a series of street performances by other Iranian artists—turning the city’s public spaces into stages where music can be played for the audience.

Best known for works that intertwine music with national identity, Shajarian has released 'My Iran', one of the best songs about Iran.

Iran’s Ministry of Culture has awarded him the First Order of Art Certificate in “Vocal Performance,” a distinction equivalent to a doctoral degree in the field.
