Cinema seats are predominately tinted in some shade of red given it is the first color fading from sight in low-light conditions.
Maroon colored seats virtually disappear to our eyes when the lights go down. However, red chairs are also said to be used in tribute to the historic accuracy of the opera house.
There is another historical explanation saying that red is traditionally considered as a royal color and that could justify to a certain extent why the maroon color is still a dominante one in many theaters around the world.
