Iran library to host UNESCO meeting

National Library and Archives Organization of Iran is to host a regional UNESCO meeting with chairpersons of regional Memory of the World committees in attendance.

According to PR office for NLAI, the gathering will be organized on August 29-30 in partnership with UNESCO Cluster Office in Tehran as well as Iranian National Commission for UNESCO.

The participating chairpersons of regional Memory of the World committees for the meeting come from countries such as Pakistan, India, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey and Azerbaijan Republic.

Key note speakers of the event include head of the NLAI Ashraf Boroujerdi as well as Esther Kuisch Laroche, Director and Representative of the UNESCO Tehran Cluster Office, among others.

UNESCO's Memory of the World Program is an international initiative launched to safeguard the documentary heritage of humanity against various factors, including collective amnesia and neglect.

In 1992, the program launched as a way to preserve and promote documentary heritage.

A total of nine documentary heritage items have been submitted by the Islamic Republic of Iran and recommended for inclusion in the Memory of the World.

Iran’s bulkiest library is responsible to follow up registering the country’s hetrirage items on Memory of the World.
