Veteran Iranian vocalist dies in Tehran

Famous Iranian vocalist Nader Golchin has passed away after a long battle with lung cancer in the capital city of Tehran.

The veteran singer died at the age of 81 while being treated for the deleterious condition of the lungs at Tehran’s Gandhi Hospital on Friday, his daughter said.

Iran’s government spokesman, Mohammad Baqer Nobakht, offered his condolences to Golchin’s family in a letter published the day after.

Golchin was hospitalized for treatment for about one month at the medical center.

The prominent vocalist was born in the northern Iranian city of Rasht. He composed traditional music in collaboration with many distinguished musicians, such as Faramarz Payvar, Farhang Sharif, Parviz Yahaqqi, Ali-Asghar Bahari, Jahangir Malek and Jalil Shahnaz.

He also launched an educational center for music.

Of the albums he worked on include ‘Escape’ (Goriz) and ‘Violet’s Ringlet’.
