Iranian ‘Madame’ vies in Pennsylvania

Iranian documentary ‘Madame’ directed by Narges Kharqani is scheduled for screening at the 16th edition of the Great Lakes International Film Festival in Pennsylvania, the US.

Making its second international appearance on Sunday, September 24, the 70-minute doc has been shot in a number of Iranian cities, including Tehran, Isfahan and Anzali.

It chronicles the life and memories of a woman named Maria, one of the last Polish immigrants to Iran, who sought refuge in the country about 75 years ago after the Soviet invasion of Poland at the onset of World War II in 1939.

‘Madame’ is Kharqani’s first feature documentary. She has previously made a number of short films, including ‘Screenplay’ and ‘My Sister’s Photo’.

Her previous short films were highly praised by critics at more than a few international film festivals.

Considered among the top 100 most popular film events in the world, the festival is dedicated to showcasing independent films in the digital medium and presenting the works of independent filmmakers and their outstanding achievements in cinema.

The 16th edition of the Great Lakes International Film Festival is slated for September 21-30, 2017, in the city of Erie, the US State of Pennsylvania.
