Iran flick to be screened in the US, Germany

Iranian feature movie ‘Under the Smoky Roof’ will hit Washington D.C.’s Bethesda Row movie theater on October 15, with the director Pouran Derakhshandeh herself participating.

Her latest work, the flick chronicles the story of emotionally unavailable spouses. Starring Farhad Aslani and Merila Zarei, it depicts the social and emotional dilemma of divorce in Iran's culture.

‘Under the Smoky Roof’ chronicles the story of Shirin, whose relations with her husband and son is soured, and is pursuing a way of conversing with them, to resolve  the issue, but a crisis unfolds as the story goes on. Trying to tackle the new problem, she faces new trials.

The opening ceremony in the US will kick off at 18:00 local time Washington D.C, with a replay at 21:00. It will also be especially released on Tuesday, October 17 at Angelica cinema, to be followed up by a criticism seminar with the director present, also hosting Fatemeh Roshan, CEO of Roshan institute, affiliated to the university of Maryland.

‘Under the Smoky Roof’ was screened at the 35th Fajr Film Festival and got nominations in six different competition sections for the Crystal Simorgh award.

The flick also has been on screen at 10 cities of Frankfurt, Bonn, Berlin, Munich, Cologne, Cologne, Darmstadt, Gibson, Karlsruhe, and Varnheim in Germany as well as in Kinopolis cinema chains since October 1, 2017.
