Bishapur, lost gem in Iran history

Bishapur is an ancient Iranian city, located in the Kazerun County, Fars Province.

According to a historical inscription, the city was founded in 266 AD by a Sassanid King named Shapour. Built in a modern rectangular shape, the city’s gates and roads cross each other.

Bishapur fire temple is considered as the greatest temple of the Sassanid period in Iran. Walls of the fire temple reach a height of 14 meters.

The city is also home to the historical site of Anahita Temple, rock-cut reservoirs and a number of rock reliefs.
