ifilm has reviewed a number of movies currently being screened at Iranian cinema theaters.
The films currently on screen at the Iranian cinema theaters include ‘Daughter… Father… Daughter’ by Panah-Bar-Khoda Rezaei, Kianoush Ayyari’s ‘Wake Up, Arezou’, and ‘Appendix’ directed by Hossein Namazi.
‘Daughter… Father… Daughter’ tells the story of solitary existence of three sisters living in a traditional western region in Iran, where an occasional traveling salesman is a distraction from the general monotony.
The cast includes Raya Nasiri, Reza Ahmadnia, Jamileh Rahimi, Khadijeh Rahimi and Hossein Rahimi.
‘Wake Up, Arezou’ is about the tragic state of quake-stricken people in Bam, Kerman Province, after the catastrophic 6.3 magnitude quake rocked the ancient city in 2013. More than 27,000 people died in the killer quake and entire lives were shattered in matter of few seconds.
Ayyari said “I made the film with the intention of drawing attentions, particularly those accountable for the thousands of lives consumed by the quake. I wanted to wake them up.”
Behnaz Jafari, Mehran Rajabi, Mehdi Jafari, Mohammad-Hossein Akbari, Ehsan Rezvani, Sahar Salari and Zeinab Zamani are among the cast.
‘Appendix’ depicts Zari and her husband, Reza, who go to a hospital because Zari is suffering from abdominal pain. As her medical insurance policy has expired, they borrow a friend’s ID and the hospital finds out about the fraud.
The cast list includes Ana Nemati, Amir-Ali Danaei, Reza Akbarpour, Pardis Manouchehri, Marjan Momeni and Mohammad-Ali Kiani.
