Dhaka filmfest hails Iran ‘Daughter’

Iranian film ‘Daughter’ directed by Reza Mirkarimi has received two awards at the 15th edition of the Dhaka International Film Festival in Bangladesh.

The festival presented the best film award to Mirkarimi’s ‘Daughter’ at the closing ceremony on January 20, 2017.

The best actor award of the event went to Farhad Aslani, the leading actor of Mirkarimi’s movie.

‘Daughter’ narrates the story of a young girl leaving her hometown in southern Iran, without the consent of her father, on a half day trip to attend a close friend's farewell party. On the way back, hazy weather changes all she's planned.

The 15th edition of the biennial Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) held from January 12 to 20 this year, screened dozens of Iranian movies.

In ‘Asia Film Competition’ section, Iranian movies such as ‘Malaria’ directed by Parviz Shahbazi, ‘Life Plus One Day’ directed by Saeed Roustaei, Mirkarimi’s ‘Daughter’ and ‘Paris, Tehran’ directed by Kaveh Ovissi went on screen.

The Retrospective section of this festival was allocated to ‘Close-Up’, ‘Taste of Cherry’, ‘The Wind Will Carry Us’ and ‘Certified Copy’ directed by late acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami.

Established in 1992 with the general theme of “Better Film, Better Audience, Better Society,” the DIFF was initially organized on annual basis but became a biennial event since 1995.
