Iranian director Asghar Farhadi’s ‘the Salesman’ has been shortlisted for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards.
The nominations for the 89th Academy Awards were revealed this morning in Los Angeles.
Directed by renowned Iranian filmmaker, ‘the Salesman’ tells the story of a young couple named Emad (Shahab Hosseini) and Rana (Taraneh Alidoosti) who move into a new apartment in the center of Tehran. However, an incident linked to the previous tenant dramatically changes their lives.
The film has already won double awards for Best Screenplay and Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival this year.
Farhadi's most famous movie, ‘A Separation’, grabbed global recognition when it became the first Iranian movie to win an Oscar at the 84th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film.
The Academy Awards, or ‘Oscars’, is an annual American awards ceremony to recognize excellence in cinematic achievements in the United States film industry as assessed by the Academy's voting membership.
Directed by Damien Chazelle, ‘La La Land’ is the leading movie among all participants, winning 14 nominations in various categories.
