Iranians celebrate Eid al-Mab'ath

Muslims in Iran and across the world celebrate the occasion of Eid al-Mab'ath (First Revelation Holiday), the anniversary of the appointment of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to prophethood.

The joyous occasion is celebrated every year by Muslims through various ceremonies and rituals, on the 27th of Rajab in the lunar calendar (April 14th of this year).

Eid al-Mab’ath is the day on which, according to Muslims, Muhammad (PBUH) received his first revelation (‘Surat al-ʻAlaq’) and was appointed as the last and greatest prophet of God.

Being one of the most important religious holidays in the country, Iranians from all ages and genders go to mosques on this occasion to participate in celebrations marking Eid al-Mab'ath.

According to Muslim resources, the event of ‘Al-Mab’ath’ took place at ‘Hira’ cave located on top of ‘Jabal Anur’ (Light Mountain) near the city of Mecca.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) often retreated to Hira cave to meditate, pray to God, reflect on the true meaning of life and to ponder over life and death.

The angel Gabriel came to Muhammad in Hira cave, carrying the message of God and telling him that he was appointed as the last prophet to guide mankind out of darkness into light.
