The Achaemenid Empire, which is also referred to as the First Persian Empire, emerged about 2500 years ago in the southern Iranian province of Pars or Fars.
Their ruins are still found in different parts of the country particularly in Fars Province which was at the heat of their empire.
Monuments like Persepolis and Pasargadae are among the world’s most significant archaeological sites and are registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The Achaemenid Period is widely seen as one of the most important phases of Iranian history.
