Iran opens online film database in English

The Cinema Organization of Iran (COI) has initiated an English website dedicated to history of Iranian cinema industry.

The website, titled 'Chronology of Iranian Cinema' (CIC), was introduced on the sidelines of the 36th edition of the Fajr International Film Festival (FIff) at Tehran’s Charsou Cineplex.

Manager of the project, Iraj Taqipour, attended a launching ceremony of the site during the 2nd day of the 36th FIff and said “This is the first phase of the project and we hope to improve the site in the near future.”

He also noted that “Iranian cinema is well known in the world, but a reliable source with information on the history of Iranian cinema in English was missing.”

The Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Abbas Salehi, COI director Mohammad-Mehdi Heidarian, and the secretary of the 36th FIff, Reza Mirkarimi attended the ceremony.

Established in 1982, the FIff celebrates cultural exchange, displays creative achievements of highly acclaimed cineastes and pays tribute to local and international films.

Since its establishment, the Fajr International Film Festival has played a vital role in the development of Iranian Cinema.

Supervised by Iran’s Ministry of Culture, the festival hosts veteran directors and new filmmakers from Iran and across the world every year.

Directed by Reza Mirkarimi, the 36th FIff has been slated for April 19-27, 2018, in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.
