‘Finding Farideh’ to represent Iran at Oscars

Iranian feature-length documentary ‘Finding Farideh’, co-directed by Azadeh Mousavi and Kourosh Ataee, has been selected to represent Iran at the 2020 Oscars ceremony.

A committee of nine cineastes decided to submit ‘Finding Farideh’ to the 92nd Academy Awards ceremony for the Best Foreign Language Film.

The film was selected from a final shortlist which included Reza Mirkarimi’s ‘Castle of Dreams’ and ‘6.5 Per Meter’ by Saeed Roustaee.

The story of 'Finding Farideh' begins with a newspaper report which reads a young woman who was adopted by a Dutch family is looking for her biological parents.

The documentary was screened at the 16th Big Sky Film Festival in the US and the 5th Iranian Film Festival of Zurich in Switzerland.

'Finding Farideh' also represented Iran at the 2018 Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) in Australia.

The film will vie at 19th Flahertiana International Documentary Film Festival in Russia next month.

The documentary has received various awards at several festivals, including the Cinema Verite (international documentary film festival) in Iran and Iran Documentary Independent Award.

The 92nd Academy Awards ceremony will take place in the city of Los Angeles in the US on February 9, 2020.
