Iran’s film to show at Spanish fest

Iranian short film ‘Branded’ has been selected to participate in the Certamen International Cortos Soria film festival (SOIFF XXIII) in Spain.

Directed by Fatemeh Mohammadi, the short themed on Afghan immigrants in Iran, will join the competition at the 23rd edition of the Spanish fest.

‘Branded’ is the story of Hafiz, a man who crosses the border to Afghanistan in order to help save the life of a woman and her little daughter.

Mohammadi, who has made the festival favorite short film ‘Oblivion’, said earlier to the media that she means to make a short film which will reflect upon the pains and miseries Afghan immigrants’ experience. Therefore, in the making of ‘Branded’ she takes on mainly Afghan cast and crew members.

She also mentioned that she wants to prove that Afghans deserve a better situation than what they are currently stuck in.

The flick has already toured a number of global events, including the Salento Film Festival in Italy, the CINEMAIUBIT Student Film Festival in Romania and the Siirt Short Film Festival in Turkey.

This year’s edition of the event is slated for November 07-21.
