Shahram Khalaj: Master of makeup artistry in Iranian cinema

Hailing from the streets of Tehran and born in 1970, Shahram Khalaj emerges as a distinguished talent in the realm of Iranian cinema makeup artistry, setting foot on the path of his career back in 1996.

Khalaj’s remarkable contributions extend to notable projects like 'Lottery', 'Standing in the Dust’, and TV series such as 'The Enigma of the Shah’ and ‘House of Outsiders’, which were featured on iFilm English.

Shahram's initial steps in the industry took him to television, where he served as a makeup designer for the series 'Shahriar', directed by Kamal Tabrizi, in 2006.

However, it was 2017 that marked a prolific period in Khalaj's career, as he significantly contributed to the world of cinema and television with participation in eight films and series, earning him recognition among the artistic community.

In this eventful year, Khalaj lent his expertise to projects like the series ‘Sattar Khan’ and 'Irandokht' both directed by Mohammad-Reza Varzi, Ebrahim Hatamikia’s 'Damascus Time', 'Lottery', 'White Forehead Gazelle 2', 'Khaltour', 'Orange Days' and ' Top Gear’.

Working alongside accomplished actors such as Ziba Karamali, Saeed Soheili, Javad Ezzati, and Hadi Hajazifar, Khalaj's participation in 'Lottery' stands as a pinnacle of his professional journey.

Interestingly, Khalaj is not just skilled in makeup artistry but also in music. He expertly plays both the guitar and the tambourine to show his musical talents.

His accolades also include winning the Crystal Simorgh for Best Makeup at the 41st Fajr Film Festival for films 'Gharib' and 'Number 10’. Additionally, he secured the Best Makeup Statue at the 18th House of Cinema Awards.

Khalaj’s dedication to his craft and his outstanding work have left a lasting impact on the Iranian film industry.
