Ecbatana is an ancient Iranian city located in western Iran in a region that historically was called Media. The city that was once the capital of old Iran is in Hegmataneh Hill.


Around 90 years ago, the excavated archeological site was registered as a national heritage in Iran.
The ancient hill of Hegmataneh has an area of around 30 hectares, which makes it the vastest ancient hill in Iran.
The remnants found in the city indicate that it belonged to the time the Medes resided the region which is around 17th century BC.
