Iran star says he, too, is excited by female roles

Akbar Abdi says female roles are exciting for him too

Renowned Iranian cinema and TV star, Akbar Abdi says female roles are exhilarating for him; a chance that doesn’t occur to everyone.

In an interview with Moj News agency, Abdi commented on the female roles he has played so far. He said if I don’t arrive at a kind of logic about the role, I won’t accept it. After playing in the snowman, I had many offers, but so far, have just accepted 4 female roles.

He added that such roles are exciting for him as well, and that he had travelled across the city after wearing the snowman makeup, without anybody noticing him. This gave him determination that he could make it.

Abdi’s flexibility allows him to take on diverse roles such as the role of a child and middle-aged man in ‘The Magical Journey’(1986)  and a mentality-disabled boy in ‘Mother’ (1989) as well as playing roles of a man and a woman in ‘Snowman’ (1994).

The famous actor also believes that producing comedies is more demanding than serious flicks.

He has won numerous awards, notably for his appearance in ‘Mother’ (1989) and ‘I’m Sleepy’ (2012) which won him the Crystal Simorgh for Best Actor in a Supporting Role from Fajr International Film Festival.

The star said no actor will ever experience his heyday toward the end of his career, as it’s an endless road. He’s now preparing to produce, direct and act in 2 flicks, simultaneously.
