A portrait of Iranian sound designer Asghar Abgoun

Asghar Abgoun, born in 1959 in Tehran, is a renowned sound designer and sound mixer in Iranian cinema.

Abgoun graduated in sound recording from IRIB University. His career began in television, where he initially worked as a director and sound operator.

Among his notable television contributions is the series ‘Yahya and Gulabtun’, one of Iran’s pioneering sitcoms, which enjoyed considerable success.

Transitioning to film, Abgoun made his debut with the sound recording for the film ‘Low Heights’, directed by Ebrahim Hatamikia.

The year 2012 marked a particularly industrious period for Abgoun, especially noted for his contributions to cinema and television.

His work on the series ‘Dark Intelligence 2’, directed by Masoud Abparvar, stands out as a milestone. Collaborating with actors such as Hossein Yari, Yaghma Yarali, Keykavous Yakideh, and Keyhan Maleki, Abgoun elevated his professional standing and showed his exceptional skill in sound design.

Throughout his career, Abgoun has balanced his contributions between television and cinema, although he is predominantly recognized for his work in cinema.

With a career portfolio comprising 15 works, he has contributed to nine films and six television series.

His cinematic works include ‘The White Heart of Dandelions’, ‘Lifeline’, ‘Whispering with the Wind’, ‘Fire Keeper’, ‘The Day of Rain’, ‘Maryam's Report’, ‘Wild Sunflowers’ and ‘This Woman Does Not Talk’.

On television, Abgoun’s notable series include ‘The Green Ring’, ‘Dark Intelligence’, ‘Operation 125’, ‘The Mukhtar Narrative’, ‘The Red Soil’ and ‘Legionnaire’.

Abgoun’s work in both television and cinema shows his dedication to sound design. His contributions have greatly influenced the auditory landscape of Iranian media, making him a key figure in the industry.
