A portrait of Iranian sound designer Bahman Ardalan

Bahman Ardalan, born on May 22, 1965, is a renowned sound designer and sound mixer in Iranian cinema and television.

His career is marked by significant contributions to the industry, with notable works featured on iFilm English TV. These include the acclaimed movies ‘Bodyguard’, ‘A Cube of Sugar’, ‘The Pastry Girl’, ‘So Close, So Far Away’, 'The Duel' and ‘Chamran’, all of which have been warmly received by audiences.

Ardalan began his professional journey in television in 1987, working as a sound designer for the series ‘Yes, It Was Like That’, directed by Davoud Esmaili.

In 2014, Ardalan had a particularly industrious year, participating in the production of several significant films. His notable works from this period include the film ‘Bodyguard’, directed by Ebrahim Hatamikia, and the movie ‘Girl’.

‘Bodyguard’ was a milestone in Ardalan’s career. Working with esteemed actors like Parviz Parastouee, Babak Hamidiyan, Merila Zarei, and Mahmoud Azizi, he elevated his work to new heights.

In 2007, Ardalan also worked on the film ‘The Bell Ring’, collaborating with director Parisa Bakhtavar and artists such as Mehran Modiri, Saber Abar, and Amin Hayaee.

Ardalan's extensive portfolio includes a variety of films such as ‘Bita is Restless’, ‘Astigmat’, ‘Orange Days’, ‘Emperor of Hell’, ‘Berlin-7’, ‘The West Sky’, ‘A Romantic Theft’, ‘Canaan', ‘Nobody Knows About Iranian Cats’, ‘Rona, Azim's Mother’, ‘Tehran Symphony’ and ‘Journey to Chazabeh.’

Throughout his career, Ardalan has received numerous accolades at festivals. In 2014, he was nominated for the Crystal Simorgh award for best sound and mixing at the 33rd Fajr Film Festival for the movie ‘Mazar Sharif’, directed by Abdolhassan Barzideh.

In 2004, he won the best sound and mixing award for the movie ‘So Close, So Far Away’, directed by Reza Mirkarimi, at the 23rd Fajr Film Festival.

Additionally, in 2015, he was nominated again for the Crystal Simorgh award for his work on ‘Bodyguard’ at the 34th Fajr Film Festival.

Ardalan’s excellence in sound design has also been recognized with Simorgh awards for ‘A Cube of Sugar’, ‘Trip to Hidalou’, and ‘Hiva’ at the 29th, 24th, and 17th editions of the Fajr International Film Festival, respectively.
