Despite holding a Doctorate in General Medicine, his passion for filmmaking led him to the world of art direction in 1988.
His journey in cinema began as a military consultant and set designer in the films ‘The Scout’ (1988) and ‘The Immigrant’ (1989), both directed by Ebrahim Hatamikia.
Over the years, Shojaee has made significant contributions to Iranian cinema, collaborating with acclaimed directors such as Ebrahim Hatamikia, Mohammad-Hossein Mahdavian, Hamid Nematollah, and Narges Abyar.
His expertise extends beyond feature films, as he has also worked on TV series like ‘The Tribe of Love’, ‘Fire and Dew’, ‘Road Lamp’, as well as short films and music videos.
Shojaee has received multiple nominations and awards at the Fajr International Film Festival, including the Crystal Simorgh Award for Best Set and Costume Design in 2016 for ‘Standing in the Dust’, the Crystal Simorgh Award for Best Costume Design in 2019 for ‘Midday Adventures: Blood Trace’, and the Best Costume Design Award at the 21st Iran Cinema Celebration in 2019 for ‘When the Moon Was Full’.
He was also nominated for his work on films such as ‘The Glass Eye’ (1991), The ‘Outcasts’ (2007), ‘The Lost Strait’ (2018), and ‘Walnut Tree’ (2020).
Several films featuring Shojaee’s set and costume design have gained international recognition and aired on iFilm English TV, including ‘The Scout’, ‘When the Moon Was Full’, ‘Standing in the Dust’, and ‘Bodyguard’.
With a career spanning over three decades, Mohammad-Reza Shojaee remains a pivotal figure in Iranian cinema, blending historical authenticity with cinematic aesthetics.
