Portrait of sound designer Shahzadi

Iraj Shahzadi, born on March 6, 1968, in Tehran, is a distinguished sound engineer and sound designer who has made significant contributions to the Iranian film and television industry since 2001.

Shahzadi holds a degree in Sound Engineering from Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and furthered his expertise in film sound design in the United States.

His academic background laid a strong foundation for his career, where he has become a prominent figure in the field of sound in Iranian cinema.

Shahzadi's career is decorated with numerous accolades. He was nominated for best sound design for the film ‘The Southside Pickpocket’ at the 31st Fajr Film Festival and best sound recording for ‘Café Setareh’ at the 24th Fajr Film Festival.

Shahzadi's work earned him the Crystal Simorgh for best sound design at the 27th Fajr Film Festival for Mohammad Reza Aslani's ‘Green Fire’ and another Crystal Simorgh for best sound recording at the 37th Fajr Film Festival for ‘Just 6.5’.      

His journey in cinema began with his work on the 2005 film ‘From Afar’ directed by Ramin Mohseni.

Among Shahzadi's most notable works are his contributions to Darioush Mehrjouee's ‘Santouri’, Peyman Maadi's ‘The Snow on the Pines’, and the epic television series ‘The Mukhtar Narrative’ directed by Davoud Mirbaqeri.  

His work on ‘The Mukhtar Narrative’ in 2011 is often highlighted as an important moment in his career, where his skillful sound design helped solidify his reputation in the television industry.  

In addition to ‘The Mukhtar Narrative’, Shahzadi also worked on the 2016 television series ‘His Excellency’, directed by Sam Qaribian. This project saw him collaborating with a talented cast including Amir Aqaee, Babak Hamidian, and Sahar Dolatshahi.

Throughout his career, Shahzadi has maintained a strong presence in both television and cinema, though his work is predominantly cinematic, with 82% of his projects being films and 18% television series.

Shahzadi's cinematic portfolio includes 14 films such as ‘Suddenly a Tree’, ‘Jamshidieh’, ‘The Warden’, ‘The Wolf Game’, ‘Profiles’, ‘Tragedy’, ‘Another Day’, ‘A Simple Love Story’ and ‘Centennial to These Years’.

His other television works include ‘Matador’ and ‘The Icy Heart (Season 3)’. Notably, ‘Matador’ aired on iFilm English, garnering a substantial fan base.

Iraj Shahzadi's career is a testament to his significant impact on the auditory experience in Iranian cinema and television.
